Kill Hannah/Until There's Nothing Left

Reviews by Luci Herbert - Dubbed as the future of Chicago rock by none other than Billy Corgan, Kill Hannah have the emotional potency of MCR without the self-pity.

They instead march to the promiscuous upbeat drum of glam and give it a dark, gothic twist.

Dark and atmospheric melodies give way to catchy stompers that don't fail to leave an impression. They're destined to be a big name in rock. 8/10

Year Long Disaster/Year Long Disaster

A life of squatting and drug rehab brought YLD together; a true rock & roll story if ever there was one.

With a pulse firmly rooted in blues, the down and dirty Southern rock groove remains constant through the lively bounce of The Fool And You and the lonesome twang of Swan On A Black Lake.

Daniel Davis's soulful yet abrasive wailing is a real asset, though there's nothing here that hasn't been done before. Solid nonetheless. 6/10

Belphegor/Bondage Goat Zombie

The Marquis De Sade is the inspiration for this concept album, with lyrics sung in German, English and Latin.

This shatters boundaries between black and death metal, as crushing blasts of brutality merge with menacing tones that roll out into epic displays of grandiloquence and a sinister aura is present throughout.

Extreme metal, ladled with tons of melody and sophisticated compositions. A must have for fans of the genre. 8/10

Millencolin/Machine 15

Millencolin may hail from Sweden, but you'd be forgiven for assuming they reside nearer to the Californian sun.

There's no shortage here of pleasant and cheery humalong melodies but, as infectious as they may be, they lack the edginess of more established pop-punk acts.

Sure, it has a wonderfully uplifting quality that's sure to put a spring in your step, but is punk really meant to be this inoffensive? 5/10

Flogging Molly/Float

Long before the inception of folk-metal, Flogging Molly were accountable for putting traditional Celtic influences into rock.

It's clear how much pride they have in their heritage, when you hear the soaring Celtic violin melodies and the racing hillbilly banjos that infuse the hard rock foundation.

Flogging Molly are an acquired taste if ever there was one, but their creativity is admirable. 7/10
